Allan Mitelman

Australian Print Workshop awarded the 2011 Australian Print Workshop Collie Print Trust Printmaking Fellowship to Allan Mitelman.

Allan Mitelman was born in Poland in 1946 and immigrated to Australia in 1953. With a career spanning over three decades, Allan is widely recognised as one of Australia’s foremost contemporary artists. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally and has been a finalist in many awards. His work is represented in major collections throughout Australia and overseas including: the National Gallery of Australia (Canberra); the National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne), the Art Gallery of New South Wales, (Sydney); and the Museum of Modern Art (New York).

The APW Collie Print Trust Fellowship provided Allan with a unique opportunity to undertake a major printmaking project at Australian Print Workshop. Working in collaboration with APW’s highly skilled Printers to develop and produce a major body of work in the print medium, this unique scholarship program enabled Allan to develop and extend his understanding of printmaking. Allan’s Fellowship program resulted in a wonderful suite of twelve etchings.

Works produced as a result of Allan’s Fellowship were presented in a major solo exhibition at APW Gallery in March-April 2012.
